ISLAMABAD (AP) ? Pakistan's top court ordered the arrest of the country's prime minister in a corruption case Tuesday, officials said, as a firebrand cleric rallied thousands of people against the government for a second day in the capital.

The Supreme Court's order, which is likely to inflame the already antagonistic relationship between the government and the court, was related to a case involving private power stations set up to provide electricity to energy-starved Pakistan. The judges are investigating allegations that the bidding process was marred by corruption.

Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry ordered the arrest of several people involved in the case, including Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, who previously served as minister for water and power, said court officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

An adviser to the prime minister, Fawad Chaudhry, said the country's attorney general, Irfan Qadir, called Ashraf to notify him that the chief justice had suggested he be arrested during a hearing into the case. But Qadir expressed doubt that it was an official order and suggested waiting for the written ruling, which should come out later Tuesday.

The adviser said any attempt to arrest the prime minister would be unconstitutional since he enjoys immunity from prosecution while in office.

The court developments could provide ammunition for Tahir-ul-Qadri, a fiery Muslim cleric who is leading a massive protest rally in Islamabad to press for the removal of the government, which he claims is made up of thieving politicians.

The rally called by Qadri, who has rocketed to national prominence after his return from Canada late last year, has galvanized many Pakistanis who say the current government has brought them only misery. But critics fear that Qadri and his demands for election reforms may derail the country's upcoming democratic elections, possibly at the behest of the country's powerful military.

India Inc Strong on Hiring, Salary at On-Campus Recruitment

New Delhi: The economic slowdown hardly seems to have deterred employers from actively pursuing candidates through on-campus recruiting programmes as majority of employers are displaying optimism in terms of hiring as well as salaries, says a survey.

According to global human resource consulting firm Aon Hewitt's Campus Study 2013, majority of surveyed organizations reported no change in the campus hiring numbers planned for this year.

"Campus hiring trends are a lead indicator of the general market sentiment towards hiring. The study results are clearly indicative of the somewhat optimistic, yet cautious sentiment of India businesses," Aon Hewitt India Partner, Talent & Rewards, Sandeep Chaudhary said.

Chaudhary further said "while it may be some time before India witnesses a growth rate of 8-9 percent again, for now corporate India surely is keeping its head high and planning for the long term."

With regards to compensation offers, majority of organizations reported no plans of increasing the fixed compensation for the 2013 batch of management graduates. Of the ones who did report an increment, the average increase was 9 percent both for tier 1 and tier 2 campuses.

The consumer products and financial services sectors continue to be the top paying industries year-on-year.

Sectors like, consumer, engineering/manufacturing, and automobiles reported a stable outlook with a majority reporting no change in hiring plans as the hiring pattern in these sectors is dependent more on the sectoral performance and not so much on the macroeconomic conditions.

On the other hand, organizations who did report a revision in hiring trends were primarily from the financial services and hi-tech sectors.

For management graduates, on an average organizations reported offering 11 Pre-placement Offers (PPOs) to interns and 19 Pre-placement Interviews (PPIs) for the 2013 batch.

In comparison, BTech / BEs average numbers of PPOs and PPIs were much higher with organizations offering 44 PPOs and 66 PPIs on an average for the 2013 batch.

The Aon Hewitt Campus Study 2013 covered compensation and hiring trends across different tiers of management and engineering campuses received participation from over 170 organizations.

PFT: Carroll angry over kicker-icing backfire

Brady

After any close game, there are moments to which either side can point as affecting the ultimate outcome.? But whenever the tuck rule rears its head, Putin-style, in any contest of consequence, it stands out.

On Saturday night, the tuck rule was applied in a much different way than it was 11 years ago, under circumstances that made its impact on the final score far more remote.? But the apparent ignorance of the clear provisions of the rule, both in real time and on replay review, was stunning.

It came in the third quarter, with the Broncos leading the Ravens, 28-21.? Quarterback Peyton Manning cocked his arm to throw, and Ravens defensive end Pernell McPhee hit Manning just below the elbow just after Manning began his throwing motion.

The ball clearly started to come out, with Manning trying ? in vain ? to maintain possession as his arm and the ball went forward.? But while super-slow-motion review suggests that at one point Manning had two hands on the ball, Peyton never was able to secure it.? The ball ended up on the ground, Ravens linebacker Paul Kruger recovered, the replay process upheld the ruling, and the Ravens tied the game five plays later.

Again, the blunder came early enough in the game to make the consequence not as clear or dramatic as it was when the Patriots retained possession against the Raiders in the 2001 playoffs ? and the Pats ultimately went on to win the game and their first of three Super Bowl trophies.? But the ruling of a fumble in the latest case seemed to disregard completely the tuck rule.

Referee Bill Vidovich was not made available after the game to explain the decision made both in real time and on replay review.? The league has provided no insight other than a citation to the rule.

According to Rule 8, Article 1, Section 1(b):? ?If, after an intentional forward movement of his hand, the passer loses possession of the ball as he is attempting to tuck it back toward his body, it is a forward pass.? If the player loses possession after he has tucked the ball into his body, it is a fumble.?

Not cited by the league was Rule 3, Section 22, Article 2, Note 2, which emphasizes that ?any intentional forward movement of his hand starts a forward pass, even if the player loses possession of the ball as he is attempting to tuck it back toward his body.?

Manning?s arm was moving forward when the ball started to come out.? The tuck rule doesn?t apply because the ball was out before Manning tucked the ball back into his body.

It?s a far easier and more logical application of the rule than 11 years ago, because Manning didn?t lose the ball after his arm had finished moving forward but before he had ?tucked? the ball (like Tom Brady).? Instead, the ball was clearly coming out after Manning?s arm started to move forward, and he never possessed it again.

And so, once again, the Patriots benefit from the tuck rule.? Instead of having to go to Denver for the AFC title game, they get to host it.

While that may not benefit the Pats strategically, it definitely helps the team tuck some more cash into the coffers via another home game.

Golf-Oosthuizen up to fourth in world with one-shot Durban win

DURBAN | Sun Jan 13, 2013 4:56pm GMT

DURBAN Jan 13 (Reuters) - World number six Louis Oosthuizen fired a six-under-par 66 to overhaul third-round leader Scott Jamieson and clinch the Volvo Golf Champions by one shot on Sunday, a victory that will move him to fourth in the rankings.

Jamieson had held a five-stroke advantage after 54 holes but seven birdies from the 2010 British Open champion Oosthuizen gave him a sixth European Tour win on 16-under 272 ahead of Briton Jamieson (72), who nearly holed a chip at the 18th to force a playoff.

Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee (68) sealed third place a shot further back while triple major winner Padraig Harrington (68) finished fourth on 12-under.

Oosthuizen, who yesterday surrendered the lead as he struggled to a 74, birdied two of the first three holes to put the pressure on Jamieson.

Further birdies at the sixth and eighth holes rounded off an outward nine of 32 and he had reduced the deficit to one by the turn.

Birdies at the 10th and 11th holes propelled him into the lead, and despite bogeying the par-four 16th after finding the greenside bunker, Oosthuizen's two-putt pars at the 17th and 18th holes were enough to clinch victory.

"I played the complete opposite of what I did yesterday," the 30-year-old, who will move to a career-high fourth place in the rankings released on Monday, told reporters.

"Yesterday I felt really uncomfortable - my swing felt long and unstable. This morning I worked on a few things on the range and put my head down. I knew if I could just put a score up there, or just get close to Scott, that I had a good chance."

Oosthuizen, who has now recorded a win in the last three seasons in his native South Africa, said his ambition was to climb even higher in the rankings although world number one Rory McIlroy was a little far off.

"Top spot is a tough one. I think Rory (McIlroy) is far ahead, so if I can somehow get myself to number two then I can work on trying to get to number one," he said.

DIFFERENT MINDSET

Scot Jamieson, who won his maiden European Tour title at the inaugural Nelson Mandela Championship in Durban five weeks ago, nearly forced a playoff when his eagle chip at the short par-four 18th finished inches from the cup.

"I almost had a grand-stand finish at the end there," the world number 100 told Reuters after a frustrating day where he managed just three birdies, a double-bogey on the front nine proving costly.

"I just couldn't make any birdies after doubling the fifth. That was just a bit of a kick in the teeth. I had a ton of chances and just couldn't take them."

Following his playoff triumph in December at the rain-shortened 36-hole event, Jamieson said he found it more difficult this time around with a significant advantage going into the final round.

"It's a completely different mindset, but you try and make it as similar as possible. But it's a lot easier to get yourself up for it when you're trying to chase somebody," said the 29-year-old.

"If you have a healthy advantage it's difficult to raise yourself to think that you need to make birdie - because you don't necessarily do," added the European Tour Race to Dubai money leader before paying tribute to Oosthuizen.

"Louis is a great player, and a major champion, so there's no shame in losing to him. I gave it my all - it just wasn't to be today."

Four-times major winner Ernie Els finished with a two-under 70 to end on seven-under 281, a shot ahead of fellow South African and twice U.S. Open champion Retief Goosen (70) who was making his comeback after a five-month injury layoff. (Editing by Tom Pilcher)
