When is the right time to start daycare? | BabyCenter Blog

My almost 13 month old baby is starting daycare next week.

Woe to me.

When I think about him being out of the home all day I tear up. I don?t know if I can do it. Until now he?s had a nanny two days a week, but I am at home working while she is here. I can open the door to my office and hear giggles and screeches at any moment. Starting next week my home will be silent for two days a week.

Daycare will be good for him, and I know that. He will love playing with the other kids and learning new things. I also know he will miss me almost as much as I miss him.

I am just not ready to let go. I also like being in control and knowing that I can fully trust that he is safe all the time. Cue the tears again.

The timing is perfect. Getting into a good daycare is a big deal where I live, and some women get on wait lists when they first find out they are pregnant. It?s ridiculous. We?ve been turned away from numerous daycares, but we finally made it to the top of the wait list at a great one. Since I?m working full time and can?t handle having only 14 hours of nanny child care anymore, we have to take advantage of the opportunity.

I don?t know how those of you who need to send your 3 month olds to daycare do it. My heart hurts to imagine how difficult it must be at that young age.

I?ll let you know how it goes next week. I don?t know how I am going to walk out that door, but for his sake and mine I will do it. Wish me luck.
